Botswana Police Service (BPS) and Botswana Defence Force (BDF) scuba divers are searching for a 30-year-old man of Etsha 1 who drowned in Lake Ngami on December 22.
Sehithwa station commander, Superintendent Zakes Masike, confirmed that the incident took place when the man and two others from Shakawe aged between 21 and 25 went to the lake to place their fishing nets. They were reportedly using an engine boat.
He said the boat capsised when the driver of the boat left the steering wheel to get his share of a sandwich. And Supt Masike stated that strong winds were also reported on that day. He said two of the occupants managed to swim ashore, while the third one drowned.
Superintendent Masike said, so far this year, they recorded five accidents in Lake Ngami in which seven people died. He advised people to be cautious when fishing or cruising in the lake. He also advised them not to go fishing when the winds are strong. ENDS
