Police foil filling station robbery

Police in Gaborone have arrested two men who attempted to rob a filling station at Industrial Site in Gaborone on Saturday (December 20) around 9pm.
A press release from the Botswana Police Service public relations officer, Mr Christopher Mbulawa stated that the suspects were a 41-year old South African and a 32-year old Zimbabwean.
In the process, the Zimbabwean man was shot and wounded when he tried to flee the scene and was admitted at Princess Marina Hospital. The statement further stated that a handgun and ammunition were found in their possession.
In a separate incident, two people died in a road accident after a motor vehicle they were travelling with five occupants overturned near Nyankane River along the Gaborone/Thamaga road.
The deceased were the driver aged 33 years and one passenger aged 28. The driver apparently failed to stop at a police roadblock at Sengaparile and the vehicle went out of his control and overturned. One other passenger is still admitted at Princess Marina Hospital.
Meanwhile, the police would like to assure the public that they would continue to intesify operations to maximise protection of people’s ;ives and property during the festive season. ENDS
