Naledi wins BTCL competition
15 Dec 2014
Naledi Senior Secondary School in Gaborone has won the Botswana Telecommunication Corporation Limited (BTCL) 2015 phonebook cover design competition.
The school also won the competition last year. BTCL partnered with the education ministry to allow schools countrywide to participate in the competition to design the cover of the phonebook.
Through the competition, each school was invited to submit an original art work in the form of painting, photography and graphic design. This year, 32 art pieces were received at Thapong Visual Arts Centre.
Speaking at the unveiling of the 2015 phonebook logo, BTCL directory services manager, Boingotlo Marope said the competition used to be open to everyone, but in the past three years, BTCL narrowed it to schools across the country in a bid to nurture art talent at grassroots.
Marope said such competitions could help promote art and self-expression among artists in the country. She further noted that the BTCL wanted to empower schools and encourage teachers by giving them a platform to shine through their students.
Naledi senior pocketed P40 000, Ledumang that came second won P20 000 while University of Botswana won P10 000. ENDS
