09 Dec 2014

South African pop group, Beatenburg, on December ) brought down the curtain on this year’s Mascom Live Sessions in style at BotswanaCraft.

The group made sure to cap off a memorable line-up of artists that were featured throughout the year.

With MMP Family opening up for the South African pop group, it was surely going to be a good night for revelers as the Botswana kwaito trio, Mothusi Jackalas (P-les), Tebogo Baipidi (Mzicho) and Modiri Nage (M.O.D) along with their backup singers serenaded music lovers with their hits.

Having been in the music industry for a few years now, MMP Family outdid themselves on stage and played all their hit tracks much to the fans appreciation. Songs such as Lebala Ka nna and A re Jabule are from their recent album released in October this year.

Music fans were taken down memory lane as they reminisced about MMP Family’s 2012 album that even won them a BOMU award and took their careers to dizzying heights.

Having recently released their second album titled Lesson 1, the trio played a couple of songs from the album and showed that they still had the groove. Along with Lebala Ka Nna, which has been a hit on local airwaves, A re Jabule and Problem Child, the lads made a comeback since they last released an album in 2012.

Beatenburg then took to the stage and had the crowd eating from the palm of their hands. Matthew Field, who has a beautiful voice and plays the guitar, Ross Dorkin, who plays the bass, and Robin Brink, who plays the drums had the crowd dancing from the moment they took to the stage until when they left after their set was done.

They played their hit songs among them Pluto-Remember You and Rafael which had the crowd singing along and dancing the night away.

With their latest offering The Hanging Gardens of Beatenburg, the lads were on point throughout their performance and made sure they make a case for themselves to come back to Botswana.

The Mascom Live Sessions have in the past featured international artists among them Bongo Maffin, Ringo Madlingozi, Freshlyground, Salif Keita, Oliver Mtukudzi and now Beatenburg can be added to that very impressive list. Even though they still have a long way to go, the South African pop group seems to be on the right track.

One can only start making plans for next year as the Mascom Live Sessions will obviously be back and better than this year. ENDS
