04 Dec 2014

A two-man delegation from France police, Commissioner Pierrick Agostini as well as regional police and safety attaché at Pretoria, South Africa, Mr Fabrice Navarro paid a courtesy call on the Commissioner of Botswana Police, Mr Keabetswe Makgophe on December 1.

A Botswana Police Service (BPS) report stated that the officers paid a four-day visit to Botswana to appreciate the services offered by the BPS and share strategies that it used to fight crime.

It further said Mr Makgophe welcomed the support they get from the French government and cited the just ended peacekeeping course they facilitated at Botswana Police College as one of the courses sponsored by the French government.

Mr Makgophe hailed the French support, saying it continued to contribute greatly in the reduction of violence and intrusive crimes.  He called for more support and expertise on offences such as illegal immigrants, murder, rape, break-ins and robberies which are still a concern.

For his part,  Commissioner Agostini said he was honoured to be in Botswana, noting that his stay in the country would benefit not only their country but also Botswana.

He also said his skills are based on investigations, community policing, feedback, public order management and response to crime reports. The visiting police officers will tour some police stations and their visit ends tomorrow. ENDS
