04 Dec 2014

Police in Maun have arrested five men aged between 19 and 28 years in connection with a robbery incident that occurred at Delta Waters International School in Maun recently.

Assistant District Commanding Officer, superintendent John Kelebeng told BOPA in an interview that two of the gangs who were armed with knives robbed Delta Waters International School students of cellphones and a laptop valued at P26 600 at the girls’ hostels on November 26.

Supt Kelebeng said three of the men are from Boseja ward in Maun and the other two from Mabudutsa ward and are helping the police with investigations.

He said the police had recovered nine cellphones and other accessories out of the 17 stolen cellphones and a laptop.

Furthermore, he said the police also retrieved other stolen goods such as four plasma TVs, three laptops and cellphones, which were collected from different places as directed by the alleged robbers.

Supt Kelebeng said their investigations linked the suspects to three previous robbery cases, which took place at Okavango International School, nurses’ staff houses at Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital and teachers’ staff houses at Tsodilo Junior Secondary School.

He said it seemed that the suspects were a syndicate and the police were still searching for others.

Meanwhile, Supt Kelebeng said a 26-year-old man of Gaoxha ward in Shakawe was arrested on November 28, in connection with a rape and wounding incident that happened in Shakawe.

Supt Kelebeng said the incident happened on November 26 at around eight in the evening when a 27-year-old woman was coming from a drinking spree carrying a six months old baby on her back.

He said the alleged rapist tripped the woman and put the baby nearby, raped the victim and stabbed her under the armpit.
On another matter, Supt Kelebeng said an eight year old boy of Eretsha who went missing after a fight with his mate, was found two days after by a search team of the police and public.

He said the young man was found at a cattle post called Kuu in the morning of November 30 but died after arrival at his home in Eretsha. ENDS
