Mosimanegape Matlho known in the music scene as ‘SuaPan’ says Presidential Music competitions give exposure to unknown artists who are new in the music industry.
He said the initiative has given them a chance to realise their dreams and pursue opportunities available in the market.
Born in Gaborone and grown up at Kanye, the Afro Kwasa and Traditional dance artiste prides himself for his ability to sing, dance traditional music, play segaba, diphala and setinkane.
SuaPan told BOPA in an interview that as he is working on his third album, he is looking forward to be part of the Presidential music competitions and perform his songs to help market his music.
He said his passion for traditional dance comes a long way from primary school where he got certificates from the school traditional group which inspired him to uphold his talent.
He said in 2009, he got into the music industry and followed the likes of Matsieng traditional troupe and got a chance to play diphala in Matsieng first album, adding that during his times as a police officer in 2003 he played diphala in the band which helped him realise his talent.
His first release was an Afro Kwasa album called Pipimpi Madala with five songs while in his second album he decided to release a traditional album called Pimpi Moleane which had six tracks.
SuaPan said music and charity work his passion to give back to the community and less privileged.
Having done a survey around Maruapula in Gaborone, my intention is to have a charity group of 12 people to be called ‘Maruasua’ a name revolving around Maruapula basically to support and help the youth and streets kids who are always roaming around the area,” he said.
The artiste who has a great passion for music and charity work is currently studying at Roads Training Centre and doing his music at the same time and intends to market Botswana through his music outside.
SuaPan’s third album dubbed Seragantshwane will be released before the end of this year.
He saidworking with Ernest Seyakgosing as his producer, guitarist Florent Kaleng, backing vocal Kelekantse Matlho is a great opportunity and team to work with.
He noted that distributing albums in the local industry is a major challenge and very hard as some distributers end up cheating them as they are still new in the industry. He added that rather than selling his rights, he will attach people like his proposed Manager, Cedrick Kemoabe to sell and distribute the album for him.
He said his passion for playing Segaba started while he was young as he usually watched the old man playing Segaba at home and he got interested in learning more, adding that he also learnt how to play Setinkane which gave him a chance to play with Mokgweetsi Kabomo during many events and awards held at GICC including Presidential competitions.
The talented star can dance to various dances such as phathisi, kalanga dance but usually majors in Tsutsube dance.
He said his plan is to get into the engineering industry after completing his studies while continuing with his music, and working with different people from all back grounds to help those in need especially patients, street kids and the needy.
He encouraged upcoming artistes to be patient and record good quality music to sell Botswana outside and be part of the Presidential competitions as they give more exposure to local artistes. ENDS
