Police probe students riot

Good Hope Senior Secondary School students are being investigated after rioting Tuesday evening.
In an interview, Deputy divisional commander South, Mr Boikhutso Dintwe said police investigations were still at a preliminary stage as they still had to establish what really led to the riot. “We are still interviewing some students to get to know what really transpired that night,” he said.
He said there were no cases of injuries recorded but had recorded a case of minor damages to the school property especially windows.
For his part, chief education officer for Good Hope Sub-district, Mr Basil Ncaagae said the riot took place at the boys’ hostel between 10 pm and 3am in the morning. He said the police acted promptly to arrest the situation before it got out of hand.
He explained that the school management was also investigating the matter to get to the bottom of the problem. He said they have briefed the ministry of education about the matter.
Regarding the ongoing form five examinations, he said they were going well as the police had been engaged to keep a watchful eye curb any disturbances. He added that proper arrangements would be made to inform parents. ENDS
