Takatokwane robbery suspect on the run

15 Oct 2014

Police in Takatokwane are looking for a fugitive who has been on the run since October 8 after being involved in a bar break-in incident.

In an interview, Takatokwane police station commander, Supt. Ocean Maraganyane said the man had been on the run for almost a week after his accomplices were arrested on October 9.

Supt Maraganyane said on the wee hours of Wednesday last week, police on patrol noticed that a local bar named Kgetsi ya Tsie was open, and when they went to inspect they noticed that it was broken into. He said they then saw vehicle headlights in the distance.

He said when the police approached the vehicle the occupants took off on foot, abandoning the vehicle.

“We later discovered that the vehicle was the one reported stolen in Gaborone. We managed to arrest four of the suspects the following day in the Takatokwane vicinity, but unfortunately one of them is still eluding us,” he said.

Supt Maraganyane said the other four suspects appeared for mention for the first time before the magistrate last Thursday.  He said investigations hadrevealed that the goods stolen from the bar were worth over P10 000.

Supt Maraganyane however, refuted allegations that there was an exchange of fire between the criminals and the police, with one police officer losing their life. He said no police officer was harmed in the incident, and that the criminals were not even armed. ENDS
