Reception classes ongoing
09 Sep 2014
Chairperson of the Central District Council (CDC), Mr Lesego Raditanka says reception classes are ongoing in all 32 schools in the region despite some challenges.
Addressing CDC session on September 8, Mr Raditanka said necessary resources had not been provided as yet, but a total of P10 million had been allocated the whole country. CDC, he said, was still awaiting funds for the programme.
He explained that the classrooms currently in use were never meant for reception classes adding that they need modifications to make them suitable for the learners as well as meet specifications of early child policy.
The CDC chairperson stated that Ministry of Education and Skills Development had recommended more classes on different schools for 2015 fiscal year. However, he said the ministry had difficulties in establishing more reception classrooms.
Mr Raditanka explained that most schools that had reception classrooms are the ones that were covered by back log eradication programme or those lessor enrolments.
He therefore, said the current proposed budget would be utilised on all the challenges that were currently the order of the day in schools. The chairperson said the central region is envisaging having 75 schools with reception classes by year 2015.
On the Adopt-A-School initiative, he said it was going well and presently more than 15 schools had benefited and appealed to councillors to help other schools to get donors or adopters.
On water recycling project dubbed ‘grey water project’ which is the first of its kind in the country and is at Motsumi Junior Secondary at Letlhakane, he said it was bearing fruits.
The project sponsored by Water Utilities Cooperation at cost of P200 000, he said has so far reduced Motsumi Junior School water bill from P90 000 per month to P15 000. ENDS
