An abundance of cultural activities and fun will be the order of the day at Dithubaruba cultural festival slated for this weekend, chief organiser, Power Kawina, has said.
Kawina said in an interview that the acting Minister of Youth Sports and Culture was expected to officiate at the biggest cultural event in Molepolole.
Apart from the usual setapa dance, Kawina said they would feature guest cultural groups, among them, a group from Phokeng in South Africa and a polka group which would enhance cultural exchange.
Moreover, Kawina explained that the show usually attracted a number of people from neighbouring countries and this year international students from the University of Botswana had also expressed interest in the event.
To hype up the event, the organising committee recently organised a fundraising walk in conjunction with the YCare Charitable Trust to expose the walkers to the rich history of Bakwena at the Dithubaruba site.
YCare Charitable Trust coordinator Stellan Bengtsson said through their walks, they intended to expose Batswana and non-Batswana to the rich culture of Botswana such as the Dithubaruba site.
He said often people did not know about the beauty and nature of their localities and the walk was a fun way for people to learn about their culture and country. The event will be celebrated under the theme Botswana pele: Maropeng go a boelwa.
The main objective of Dithubaruba cultural festival is to promote the history and culture of the Bakwena and cultural tourism to bring about a holistic competition amongst youth groups in Molepolole as well as promoting leisure in the district. ENDS
