Bahurutshe celebrate dikgafela

28 Aug 2014

Culture enthusiasts will descend Goo-Manyana kgotla on Friday (August 29) to imbibe from the calabash of Bahurutshe ba ga Mmapula-a-Modisane traditions.

Speaking in an interview, Bahurutshe deputy kgosi, Robert Mangope, said they come together every year to give thanks to God for the rains and good yields. The theme for this year’s celebrations is: Turning Dikgafela into Tourism.

Kgosi Mangope expressed joy that Bahurutshe had once again, as customary, brought forth yields to Kgosi Kebinatshwene Mosielele as a token of appreciation for the good season.

He said the produce will be distributed amongst the less privileged tribesmen like orphans, widows and the needy as prescribed by Bahurutshe culture and traditions. However, Kgosi Mangope said they wanted to diversify Bahurutshe culture particularly the aspect of Dikgafela with the view to making it a bit commercial but explained that the move will not kill the traditional dimension.

He added that the commercialisation drive will benefit Bahurutshe at large.  He said they will also have stalls during the day for poverty eradication beneficiaries to exhibit their products as a way of opening up opportunities for them.

Some activities lined up for the day include Bahurutshe poetry, songs and dancing according to Kgosi Mangope. ENDS
