Known as Godson Tshipietsile in the music scene, the young man born and bred in Orapa has nothing but dreams to overcome challenges

Godson grew up around musical influences and he always had a dream of making it in Botswana’s music industry, either as a manager or owning a record label. Having made his way to Gaborone to pursue his tertiary education, he fell in love with the contemporary urban hip-hop culture.

Godson’s involvement and love for music dates back to when he and his friend Tumisang Motseko sold Culture Spears’ albums for a quick buck back in high school and also organized talent shows then in school.

“I have a degree in psychology from the University of Botswana (UB) and it was back in 2009 when I met entertainers at UB such as Karli Beatz, E.P.I.C, OP, PK Maada, Ozi F Teddy and producer Rimzy,” he said, adding that it is then that him and Karli Beatz decided to start up a label to nurture upcoming artists.

He indicated that they eventually signed E.P.I.C to their label who released his first single titled Do it Big and it received good airplay on local radio stations.

“I went on to manage one of the biggest names in the music industry in Botswana in the name of Kast and I must say that it was a dream come true to work with my mentor,” said Godson.

He indicated that among other things, he worked with Culture Spears on their campaign to encourage artists to give back to their communities, and was also scheduled to work with Mr Tagg, but he relocated to South Africa to take up a radio job.

“My organisation is dedicated to providing disadvantaged urban youth with significant exposure and access to the arts as well as offering exhibition opportunities to artists,” he said.

Godson further said his passion is developing talent and helping artists build their brands, adding he is looking to put to use his degree qualification and at the same time concentrating on building his organisation. ENDS
