In their journey of instilling teamwork spirit amongst departments serving under Ministry of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, 15 beauty contests from various departments battled it out for Miss African beauty contest at Geological Survey auditorium on August 15.
Multitudes of people from all walks of greater Gaborone thronged Department of Geological Survey auditorium for a fun filled night.
The contestants did not disappoint, as they came prepared to serenade the evening with breath taking designs that also sampled a bit of neighbouring countries’ cultural origins such as Zulu and Swazi outfits.
Beauty contest organisers and fashion lovers also took the opportunity to serenade the evening clad in exquisite African attires that made one to think that they have been designed internationally, yet were locally made. The contestants’ initial parade was a traditional ‘khiba’, with a white vest followed by old fashioned attire.
One would have not failed to notice an old pair of trousers that was an in thing during olden days, known as “phalazo, clad with dungaree while some blended their outfits with figure belts.
The third parade was embraced by beautiful traditional dresses made in diverse colours and patterns which added more fascination to the organised event.
Even though the show started a little late, the audience could not complain as the DJ sent the old and young ones on their knees when he dished a song by the late Brenda Fassie ‘It’s a wedding day’ and even those who remained seated knocked their heads sideways.
Lobatse local based musicians’ also kept the night vibrant with their traditional and hip hop songs.
Kago Phaladze from Botswana Power Corporation (BPC) was crowned Miss African Beauty Contest.
Thokgamo Mogapi from Water Utilities Corporation scooped first princess while Chimo Seitiso from BPC was crowned second princess. Ends
