Poor sound mars event

05 Aug 2014

Billed as the night that Botswana Hip Hop meets South African Hip Hop, Saturday’s I love Hip Hop event organised by Kosher Nightz lived up to its early hype except for the poor sound quality.

With the event slated to start at 2pm, the show only kicked into life two hours later as South African Hip Hop artist KO took to the stage to only a handful of revellers. He performed his hit songs among them Caracara.

He only got to perform about four songs and informed the crowd that he had to catch a flight back home but all the same, people enjoyed his set. Local artistes also had the crowd with their performances.

From ATI, Noello and Sasa Klaas, people enjoyed their sets too even though they were very short.

One thing that seemed to be different between artistes from South Africa andthe locals was the level of lyricism that came out and the South African artistes seemed to get more out of the poor sound system as compared to artistes from Botswana.

Besides the poor sound quality people also had issues with the amount of money being paid and questioned why one would pay P300 and P600 and basically be around each other and having more or less the same view to the stage.

Crowd favourite Khuli Chana did not make it to event but AKA and Casper Nyovest came through. The lads from South Africa wowed the crowd with their talent and AKA seemed to be visibly annoyed with the sound quality and made his frustrations known.

All in all it was a good show and there were no reported incidents of wayward behaviour and one can only wish that the organisers can learn from the mishaps and go on to put on great shows for Batswana. ENDS
