Collaboration works for K-Bos

03 Aug 2014

Making music should be fun and sharing it is obviously a learning curve for an artist.

Like Botswana hip hop sensation K-Bos says, working together as musicians brings two or more worlds together and gets various people in the music industry in touch.

He brought in various artists as well as the showbiz personalities in his Harass Pampiri remix and it was a constant hit among music lovers. The remix showed the talent that Botswana has to offer in the entertainment industry; and that K-Bos says he showcased through his music.

A diverse artist, K-Bos’ latest album Hip Hop is Music has collaborative singles and most with different sounds. Jane, a single from the album, seems to be enjoying the airplay of late. It is a sample of the folk song, and he has given it an upbeat tune through a collaboration and fuse of hip hop and kwaito with Mandla and Kagiso from Eskimos.

The making of Jane, K-Bos says was easy but also difficult as it was a thinking process, but in the end it was enjoyable.

Also in the album, one would find the single Dimakatso which is collaboration between Vee and Mosako. The single is a fuse of traditional content and sound and hip hop sound to achieve the ear catching rhythm.

A lover of all music genres, K-Bos believes hip hop is poetry to anything that has drum to it. His latest album, he says was created solely for diversity and pulling in crowds especially the audience which is not yet acquainted with hip hop music.

Collaborations in music have own benefits such as inspiring, motivating and driving artists and/or musicians to up their game. They also offer value and commitment and a sense of thriving for perfection and not let others down.

K-Bos concurs and says collaborating in music also brings different sounds into one song and that, he says help develop the industry in Botswana.

To him, collaborating also opens doors for variety in terms of creativity; because in the end one is exposed to connections in the industry which will help musicians achieve their goals.

K-Bos is not only a singer but co-owner of Heartbeat Sounds Record label. The label has under its arm 13 artists including K-Bos himself as well as Eskimos. He encourages any talented musician to collaborate as that is important for the development of any musician.

He also says they should not underestimate new talent as they bring in fresh and new sounds to help one achieve their goals.

And, with the advent of new technology collaborations are even easier to carry out.  K-Bos explains that in Botswana however it is relatively easy to pursue working with new people as the population is small and allows easy access to new cropping talent.

Similarly from outside the boarders of Botswana, K-Bos says it is quite easy with the help of internet. He says the internet has helped put out Botswana talent out in the international platform and to get recognition it deserves.

What is left is for musicians in Botswana to get out and be inspired to work with new people outside their comfort zones, and maybe then something special may come out of it, and turn to become musically empowered. ENDS
