Phihadu stands in the gap

29 Jul 2014

True to the saying that “where there is a will there is a way”, a group of determined young people, all residents of Kanye seem geared for greater things if the level of their will power to inculcate self-confidence within students is anything to go by.

Tough economic times that have hit nations across the world have not deterred Phihadu, a media company specialising in performance and arts from filling the void in the country’s education system.

Through its subsidiary, Black Law Streetz, which boasts of artistes of considerable talent and experience spurning seven years in pop music, rhythm and blues and poetry, the group has taken it upon its self to raise self-esteem in school going children in Kanye and surrounding areas.

Mr Osenotse Mabote who is the director of the Self Express (SE), a vehicle that Black Law Streetz has used to invade schools lately said the initiative came about after the realization that majority of students confidence level was at its lowest-ebb.

Mr Mabote was optimistic that the program which has been given thumps up by the regional education office and schools alike will not only impart communication skills upon pupils but will help produce assertive leaders of tomorrow.

“We engage both Junior and Secondary schools pupils through poetry, writing, debate competitions for instance to improve their confidence level,” he said adding that such engagements are in line with the syllabus.

He was elated that so far teachers they have engaged at schools have shown commitment to the initiative to prepare the students during pre-training sessions. “We also intend to record the best works for future referencing and further learning.”

Lack of sponsorship he said remain their main challenge hence they have brought in the entertainment aspect where they charge P10 and P20 for Junior and Secondary pupils respectively for the shows. ENDS
