Get your diary out and diarise August 2. Why, on the day Botswana hip hop will meet South African hip hop in what is billed to be the All Hip Hop show of the year on Botswana soil.

“Music lovers all the same will enjoy a variety of music from big name artistes and disc jockeys (Djs) alike both from Botswana and South Africa,” said organiser of the event Fauz El-kindiy aka DJ Fauz of Kosher Nightz in an interview.

DJ Fauz indicated the show would be the first of its kind in Gaborone and would be held at Airport Junction from 2pm-11pm. He said the show would be a mix of music from Djs and live performances from artistes throughout the day, adding they would have market stalls, food and drinks and an all-around lovely vibe celebrating the urban lifestyle of the hip hop loving youth.

Artistes from Botswana include Chub Heightz, ATI, Sasa Klaas, Noello and EGO, with the DJs being DJ Fauz, Ozzy The Great, DJ Cupid, DJ Root, DJ Unanimous and KY Carter.

With the South Africans bringing almost all of their heavy hitters such as Khuli Chana, AKA, Casper Nyovest, KO and Kid X. Botswana artistees have to be on their A-game and show that they are no push overs.

DJ Fauz said people should not expect anything less than top notch performances from Botswana artistes. “ATI, Chub Heightz, Sasa Klaas, Noello and EGO will come to the party and show everyone why they are loved and prove to everyone else that they can play with the big boys,” he said.

Asked what informed his line-up, DJ Fauz said they considered hardest working DJs over the last two years. He said they were aiming to make the event an annual one and would endeavour to make each event better than the previous one.

DJ Fauz said tickets were available for P300, P600 and P1 800. “The P300 ticket is normal access, the P600 is golden circle access which is in front of the stage and the P1800 ticket is a VVIP and it’s a double ticket which gets one a room at Cresta President Hotel, a bottle of Jameson, food and access to the golden circle and VVIP tent,” said DJ Fauz.

He indicated the P300 and P600 tickets were available at Riverwalk kipsk, village spar, BBS Spar, Molepolole Spar and Mochudi Spar. “As for the VVIP tickets, they are available only at Cresta and people with the VVIP ticket will also get access to an after party to be held at the hotel,” he said.

DJ Fauz gave assurance security at Airport Junction would be tight and said patrons should not worry about anything. “We will have security personnel everywhere and we will also light up the place so as to have no dark spots,” he said. ENDS
