Katlego Tau aka Kalahari who broke into the music scene in 2011, has released yet another album entitled Botswana.
He released two other albums in 2011 and 2013. His first two albums were of the mpaqanga genre but the new one has incorporated a different genres including traditional, jazz and Zambian ragga. “From a young age, I was a traditional dancer and singer and that is how I discovered that I could make a living out of music,” he told BOPA.
He has been working behind the scenes recording with local artistes like Shumaba Ratshega, Mantshwabisi, Ashley Gops, and Tyte among others. “I made mistakes in the second album and it almost let my fans down hence I aimed for a much higher standard in this album,” he said.
His six track album includes a track entitled women, a song which appreciates the women as the mothers of the nation. It is a danceable track which can fit a lot of occasions. The titled track Botswana tells the story of beautiful Botswana, specifically its tourist attractions.
The third song ga ke gane is an artistically produced song which has the element of Mantshwabisi’s rhythm and shows a transition from the first two songs. Track number four star is a song that Kalahari wrote to express his ambition in becoming a star. In the song, he mentions various local artistes who were his role models.
The man from Morokolwane in the southern district mentions Ditiro Leero as his inspiration when growing up.
Other songs in the album are shaliana and batsadi and they highlight Kahahari’s ability not only to compose songs well but to sing them harmoniously. The album was recorded and produced by Bullet Ketshabile. ENDS
