Ghanzi meat festival has potential

17 Jul 2014

The second Ghanzi meat festival has shown potential for growth. The event attracted a good number of people compared to last year’s.

The two-day event, held at The Gat just outside Ghanzi township, attracted a huge crowd despite the chilly night and other entertainment gigs that were going on.

Meat lovers did not drag their feet and attended the festivities. Although people expected meat in abundance, some did not have the chance to indulge as much as they wished.

Some revellers came after dawn when the nocturnal feast started at 6pm. Some people complained that they paid the P150 entrance fee, but were not given meat as promised by the organisers.

Even the promised variety of dishes was not available. However, some revellers treated the event as a music festival than a meat festival.

Greg Losibe, the organiser of the meal festival, noted there were intervals for meat serves. The first round of meat was served at 6 pm and a braai meal later in the evening. He said people who complained about not eating meat were the last to arrive at the festival.

Losibe, however, conceded that some people could not have eaten the meat because serving management was overwhelmed by the number of people who attended. This situation would be rectified at the next meat festival.

The entertainment line-up included Tsabana group, DJ Sly and other local dee jays; and they kept revellers dancing the chilly night away.

The meat festival continued on Sunday with a three-hour jazz session that was broadcast live on RB2. After the live broadcast, DJ Duece spinned the oldies. Losibe appealed to sponsors to support events that promote domestic and cultural tourism. ENDS
