The standard of theatre in the country has experienced a notable growth over recent years.
This was said by the Botswana Brigades Sports Association (BOBSA) public relations officer Mompoloki Lekoba during the south region BOBSA theatre and traditional dance competitions in Ramotswa on June 28.
He said the competition, which had brought together 13 brigades from the southern part of the country displayed quality. Lekoba noted this could be attributed to the contribution of the relevant role-players towards the development of theatre industry in the country.
The event held under the theme: Youth abstinence, it is possible, yes we can, aimed at spreading the message on HIV and AIDS to the youth through theatrical performances.
The host, Tswelelopele Brigade of Ramotswa scooped position one, followed by Moshupa, Kgatleng and Lobatse brigades in drama competition. In the traditional dance category, Borolong, Tshwaragano and Naledi Brigades scooped position one up to three respectively.
In general, Lekoba added that the competitions went as planned except for few hurdles during preparations which they managed to address. Lekoba said all bridges which have scooped position one up to four in theatre and traditional dance competitions have qualified for the finals penciled for the July 12 at Oodi.
During the finals, brigades from the southern part of the country will battle against those from the northern part. He added that the overall winner will have the leverage of touring the country educating the youth about HIV and AIDS issues. ENDS
