Petros Mundere, 33, of Ndama in Rundu, Namibia, appeared before Magistrate Mmoloki Sibanda of Gumare recently for unlawful possession of five rough diamonds at Mohembo Border Post.
The prosecutor, Inspector Abel Matlhape of the Botswana Police Service told the court that since the matter was fresh, investigations were still going on. He said the case had been handed over to the Diamond Narcotics Squad for further investigations. “We therefore ask for the accused to be held in custody so that investigations can be done,” he said.
Inspector Matlhape told Magistrate Sibanda that the five stones had been taken for laboratory testing to establish if they were real. Magistrate Sibanda ordered that the accused be held in custody until June 30, the date of his next mention. ENDS
