Models for SA seminar
18 Jun 2014
Aspiring models from Botswana, South Africa and the rest of Africa, will on June 28, have the chance to interact and share ideas with each other at a models seminar organised by Basetsana Mbewe of Model-It Agency in Johannesburg, at the Crowne Plaza, Rosebank in South Africa.
Speaking in an interview, Mbewe said she relocated to South Africa more than seven years ago to start her modelling agency having been involved in the fashion industry in Botswana for over 10 years.
“Young and up-coming models in Africa hardly ever come together to share and get advice from other models who are established on what the modelling industry requires and what one has to do to get ahead,” she said.
“This will be the first time we are hosting such a seminar and we are also looking to hold a fashion show towards the end of year,” she said, adding that the fashion show will also become an annual event.
She said the seminar was meant for models under her agency, but not strictly reserved for them. “We have close to five models coming from Botswana who will be attending the seminar and we are also inviting other aspiring models from across the continent to visit our Facebook page (Model-IT Agency, South Africa) if they are interested in attending the seminar,” she said, indicating that other models from South Africa have shown great interest.
She said aspiring models who attended the seminar will stand a chance to be selected to take part in the year end fashion show and also called on aspiring designers to visit their Facebook page if they want to take part in the fashion show.
Mbewe said the main purpose of the seminar is to encourage and enlighten aspiring models on how the modelling world works. “We also want to expose the models to the world with the hope that they can move on to bigger and better things,” said Mbewe.
Further, she revealed that her agency is connected to clients like the South African Fashion Week, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, African Fashion Week, Cape Town Fashion Week and other casting agencies in South Africa. “Liza Marie from American
Talent Convention will also be in attendance at the seminar and Top Model Competition people from South Africa will be in attendance too,” she said, adding that job opportunities at the models seminar will come thick and fast for the models in attendance.
Touching on some of the speakers who will grace the seminar, Mbewe said they will have Sarah Blatcher speaking to the models. “Ms Blatcher is a freelance makeup artist, hair stylist based in Gauteng, South Africa.
She has 7 years working as a professional in the industry and is blessed with a knack of highly efficient creativity and flair,” she said. ENDS
