Bantolo Cultural Group is one of the groups, which are making it big in the music industry singing in the Kalanga language.
The group, which is made up of eight members from Masunga, gave their fans a chance to appear in the new DVD recently for their fourth album called Ndi Nkalanga Dhumbu, which was released last year in December.
The six-track album features hit track Uno ndi pengesa, which talks about a young man in love and expressing his love for his sweetheart and the DVD is expected to hit the market around July. Other tracks include Ndi Nkalanga dhumbu, Bana, Chipo, Chanda and Bazhuza.
The album consists of traditional music and most of the songs talk about being proud of your culture and roots, traditional way of life and values of Bakalanga.
The group spokesperson, Mr Jimson Richard said their first break in the music industry came in 2008 when they released their first album and talked about their music in the RB1 local talent programme.
He said they also performed in Mokaragana in 2010 and this made them popular as they started getting invitations to perform in weddings and parties.
They also had the chance to perform at the road safety campaign last year in Mathangwane, Nurse’s and Teacher’s day in Masunga last week.
Mr Richard said they intend to use their music to teach people about Kalanga culture and at the moment, they market their album in front of Furnmart Stores in Tutume and said that people continue to show support by buying their CD.
He said even though their music is doing well they still do it part time as all members have other careers.
Furthermore, Mr Richard encouraged other people who want to join the music industry to finish school first and get jobs so that they can have something to fall back on if the industry gets tough. ENDS
