Library hosts culture day

Letlhakane library celebrated culture in style on May 28 with a display of traditional cuisine and recipes, cultural artifacts and books relating to the event.

Acting principal library officer, Wazha Ndulamo said the event which was running for the second year aimed at promoting traditional dishes.

Ndulamo said a library should not only be viewed as a source of information or a hub of reference material, adding that it also involved itself in community activities and programmes.

“We have decided to promote culture through food as the majority of the people in our community are losing touch with the traditional food,” she said.

Ndulamo said Letlhakane library had a duty to serve the community with information and also extended her gratitude to those who graced the cultural event more especially the elderly who hardly visited the library.

“As a community library, we are open to any initiatives or ideas that will help retain our customers and help improve our services to the community”, she added.

The cultural event was also used as an opportunity to raise funds that would go towards assisting the needy, adding that the officers had been involved in charity work as well and had adopted a standard one pupil whom they had been assisting with school material, clothing and toiletry.

Furthermore, she said the library has managed to donate vegetables to patients at the Letlhakane Primary Hospital with the aid of Letlhakane Senior Secondary School.

She said the school had offered them a piece of land to grow vegetables which they supply to patients at the hospital. ENDS
