Police investigate deaths

19 May 2014

Police in Serowe are investigating two cases in which two people were found dead in Thabala.

In one incident, a 26-year-old woman was found dead with injuries in her body at her house while a 24-year-old man was also found dead at the lands of Mmasegoiwa near Thabala.

In an interview, Serowe police station commander, Mr Paul Molapisi said they received a call alerting them of the woman's death. However, he said during their investigations to establish the cause of her death, they received yet another call on the same day informing them of the man's death.

“The two bodies were rushed to Sekgoma Memorial Hospital where they were certified dead,” he said. Their bodies, he said, were at Sekgoma Memorial Hospital awaiting post mortem while police investigations were on going to establish the cause of their deaths.

Meanwhile, Mr Molapisi raised a concern about the high number of deaths related to lovers’ quarrels. “In 2012 we registered 10 deaths while in last year 17 cases of deaths were registered in my police station,” he said.

He noted that such cases were worrisome and giving police sleepless nights. Therefore, he appealed to members of the public to always seek for help from relevant authorities such as social workers, dikgosi, parents or any trusted person when they have misunderstandings.

Meanwhile, Mr Molapisi applauded police volunteers for the good job they were doing in communities to combat crime.

Since the introduction of police volunteers, he said the rate of crimes has decreased. Ends
