Bongo Maffin rocks Gaborone
11 May 2014
Bongo Maffin on Friday night (May 9) marked their return to Gaborone with a sizzling performance at the Mascom Live Sessions hosted by BotswanaCraft and it was like they had never broken up to pursue solo careers.
With BotswanaCraft packed to the rafters and some revelers not able to purchase tickets because of the sellout crowd, the South African musical group did not disappoint one bit as they dished out track after track and took music enthusiasts down memory lane.
It was not shocking to see some music lovers outside the venue dancing to the music that was coming from inside as they did not have a choice but to enjoy the show from outside.
Stoan Seate, one of the four group members declared to the crowd that it was his birthday and he was happy that he was spending his birthday night in Botswana with fans of Bongo Maffin.
When they performed their hit track Thath’isigubhu fans went wild and sang along with them. With Thandiswa Mazwai leading the pack, sweet sounds and melodies from her had the crowd mesmerised as she laid it down hard along with the live band they had playing with them.
Songs such as Mari Ye Phepha, Diphendule and Azania touched a chord with music fans as they reminisced about when Bongo Maffin came up in the late 90s.
With ATI of Polao Ya Motho fame opening for the renowned South African group, the young man held his own and showed that he has the gall to play with the big boys.
With his well-publicised legal woes, ATI did what he does best and what he is loved for, and he did not even seem fazed but what is going on outside his music life, and he must be commended for that.
Botswana Craft and Mascom Wireless surely know how to entertain people and the Mascom Live Sessions have never disappointed fans for as long as they have been around, and it remains to be seen who they will bring next. Ends
