Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) Fund recently treated its employees and guests from Swaziland, Namibia and Botswana to a spectacular Letlhafula festival at the Crocodile Camp in Maun.
Attendants enjoyed traditional food, drinks and entertainment. Cultural enthusiasts were treated to a variety of snacks ranging from ground nuts, sugar cane to water melons as well as roasted and boiled mealies.
Traditional groups Letsuatsue, Masalela a Bodimo and Tshetlha ya Dikgwa mesmerised the attendants with their well-choreographed traditional dance moves.
Stiger Sola took to the stage and enthralled the audience with his musical pieces, which narrated the daily life of ordinary Batswana. The audience was taken by storm as they stood up on their feet to dance to Stiger Sola’s rhythms.
MVA employees and guests looked traditionally unique in their German prints or “leteisi” outfits.
In an interview, the chairperson of the local organizing committee, Ms Mpule Ditirwa, said they decided to treat their counterparts from Swaziland and Namibia to Letlhafula’s traditional cuisine and activity so that they experience the true essence of Botswana.
She said they wanted their guests and staff to experience the amazing food and culture in Botswana.
“We wanted to promote Botswana culture and tradition and to expose it to our friends. This would also help to sell the country to potential tourists. We also invited small business owners to set up stalls and exhibit their products at the festival,” she said.
Ms Ditirwa added that all the traditional food that was on sale was bought from local cooks. She said Maun was chosen to host the event because it is rich in natural resources, culture and tourism activities. Visitors were also treated to a boat cruise. ENDS
