05 May 2014

Multitudes descended on Maitisong hall on May 3 to enjoy a variety of sweet melodious pieces by Maikano Serenaders and North West University Serenaders (SA).

The two Serenaders shared the stage in a choral musical concert dubbed Serenading the City.

First on stage was Maikano Serenaders who opened the show with a national anthem, before thrilling the audience with their western pieces. The choir performed songs such as Cara Mio ben, Godiam la Pace, Angus dei and The Lord gave the word.

The visitors also started by offering their western pieces, such as Domine Fili Unigenite by Antonio Vivaldi, Otche Nach, Passing and Come again sweet love.
Thrill was yet to come, when the choirs started giving the audience vernacular pieces.

This was the peak of the show as Maikano Serenaders performed songs such as Amasiko Ne Zithethe, Botswana, Mankokotsane, and Pitse tsa hlogo among others.

North West University Serenaders proved supremacy when it came to vernacular pieces, the choir enthralled the audience with songs like Umshado, Molelekeng and Liphala among others.

The objective of the concert was to raise funds for the preparation and other expenses involved in the upcoming trip to the 2014 Old Mutual National Choir Festival to be held in South Africa on September 7.

The choir, Maikano Serenaders first made its appearance in the local choral scenes back in 2006, which then followed a successful launch in June of 2007.

It has participated in various competitions both locally and in the neighbouring countries especially South Africa at the Old Mutual National Choir Festival. ENDS
