PeloKgale TV drama launches
04 May 2014
PeloKgale television drama was launched on Wednesday night (April 30) at Masa capitol cinemas in Gaborone.
The TV drama, produced by DEE ZONE productions in association with Kagisano Society Women’s Shelter (KSWS), is aimsed at addressing the issue of gender-based violence.
When launching the TV drama, the head of European Union Delegation, also the sponsors, Dr Hermann Spitz said he believed PeloKgale would promote awareness in issues of gender-based violence, as well as evoke the necessary debates which would bring about positive change.
Dr Spitz noted that gender based violence was a human right issue as it led to violation of human rights. He said EU gave support to countries to support efforts on human rights with funding channeled through governments.
He thanked Radio Botswana and Botswana Televison for airing PeloKgale and allowing discussions free of charge.
The 26 episode drama was adapted from a book published by KSWS titled stories of courage as told by women.
Meanwhile, the producer of PeloKgale , Thabiso Maretlwaneng of DEE ZONE Productions said the production of Pelokgale was a great experience with his team having to make scenes which depicted reality.
Maretlwaneng said it was an honour for them as young people to produce films of such magnitude, which he acknowledged as a growth in the film industry.
He said the crew had about 500 cast with some actors who had never been in the acting field before.
The attendants had a chance to view the first episode of PeloKgale on the big screen. The main actor Letty, who was unemployed, financially depended on her pompous working husband Dan.
Dan could not allow Letty to find a job nor was she allowed to have a say on how the money was spent.
Although the story was very touching on the side of the victim Letty, it has a sense of humour from Dan’s character which left the spectators laughing although sympathising with Letty.
The KSWS’s new logo was also launched at the event. KSWS is a charity organization for abused women and children. ENDS
