First members exhibition May 9
29 Apr 2014
Thapong Visual Arts Centre will be buzzing with excitement as the first members exhibition of the year kicks off on May 9.
In an interview, coordinator of the centre, Reginald Bakwena said the aim of the exhibition would be to expose the work of artists who are members of Thapong Visual Arts Centre.
“We are going to have 40-50 artists exhibiting their work and the event will run for two weeks,” he said. So far, he said, the pieces brought forward were clear evidence that artists took their time and followed instructions.
He said he had observed that artists no longer did art pieces just for the sake of it, but rather put their heart and soul into their work. Bakwena further said the exhibition would help artists with constructive criticism coming from the judges and even the public.
“Our artists will also learn marketing strategies to use on their art pieces and make a proper living,” he said. Bakwena called upon art lovers to come forward. “Our artists need support and we should try by all means to help elevate our art to a higher level, and this cannot be done without the input of our fellow countrymen,” he said.
