Choral music fanatics will, on May 3, be treated to the cream of the genre as Maikano Serenaders and South Africa’s North West University Serenaders sing the house down.

The two choirs will share the stage in a choral musical concert dubbed Serenading the City slated for Maitisong in Gaborone. Maikano Serenaders’ spokesperson, Gosego Lesole said in an interview that preparations for the big show were at an advanced stage.

She said the choir would be going on camp together with the technical team from the North West University Serenaders for the show’s final preparations, starting today, (Friday) until Sunday.

Lesole said the Gaborone West based youthful choir, was guided by its mission statement which read in part “to provide the youth with an opportunity to learn, appreciate and develop their talents in music” and it was one of the reasons why they built a partnership with the North West University Serenaders.

She said the objective of the concert was to raise funds for the preparation and other expenses involved with the upcoming trip to the 2014 Old Mutual National Choir Festival to be held in South Africa on September 7.

Maikano Serenaders first made its appearance in the local choral scenes back in 2006 before launching in June of 2007.

It has participated in various competitions both locally and in the neighboring countries especially South Africa’s Old Mutual National Choir Festival. ENDS
