Play puts Christianity into perspective

A Good Friday dramatisation of Passion for Christ was meant to evangelise the day’s story as an alternative to traditional reading.
The dramatisation by St Bernadette Catholic Parish youth at Kgale Siding depicted the trial, crucifixion and the ultimate death of Jesus Christ.
The event organiser, Rebaone Tswiio, said evangelising the journey Jesus Christ took through dramatisation, which was commonly known as the Passion for Christ, was to depict the sufferings Jesus Christ went through.
Tswiio said, through visualising the day act, they hoped to appeal to the youth as they break away from the normal scriptural teachings of how Jesus was treated until his death. The event, which was part of the church’s annual Easter holidays commemoration, had attracted many to the usually quite Kgale Siding Hills.
According to father MacLloyd Mdzinga, in today’s world, there was a lot of secularism and philosophies that drove youth out of the church. He said it was through the event such as the passion play that youth would be lured back into the church.
“It is a reminder that Jesus is not absent, there is no need to say Jesus is absent, He is still with us in our sufferings,” he said, adding that the need for youth to be exposed to true teachings of Christ could not be overemphasised.
Father Mdzinga said lack of faith had stalled many progresses in the world and the youth need to embrace it, adding that without faith they were likely to fail.
“Faith is that which elevate you, when we are grounded to the word things which were dead will be able to awake themselves up,” he added. Father Mdzinga further pointed out that through faith, things which were possible during the times of Christ are still possible today.
One of the actors, Kabo Mpetlhe who has been playing Jesus Christ for the past three years, said as youth they must draw inspiration from Jesus Christ. “As young people, we can change this world, we must be bold and know that Christ is there for us,” he added.
The Passion for Christ dramatisation by the St Bernadette Catholic Parish youth apart from being part of church activities for the Easter holidays, reminded the faithfuls the journey that their saviour Jesus Christ went through. ENDS
