Dancers yearn for recognition
21 Apr 2014
Kanye dance group, Psycho Kings, has urged the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture to devise ways to afford youth dancers the recognition accorded others in the performing arts.
Speaking in an interview, they said dancers were usually not successful during the youth talent show competitions such as My African Dream and My Star because the audience preferred singers over them.
But Psycho Kingz, the group that comprises Tshepo Ntshutelang, Tefo Bome, Bokamoso Mmereki, Duncan Nkitseng and Thapelo Gofhamodimo was formed with the purpose to dance for a living, according to Bokamoso.
The Sbujwa dance group that is financially assisted by Bangwaketse Kgosikgolo Malope II and mentor Taolo Moshaga said musicians were represented by BOMU, artistes had COSBOTS while dancers have nothing.
Although the versatile group does Ballet dance and kwasa- pantsula, they said their audience was moved more by sbujwa dance hence they did it more than other other dances.
Like any other worthwhile undertaking, he said passionate dancers would reap benefits from their God - given talent if someone could pave the way for them, adding he believed one could earn a living through the art just like singers.
The group has so far performed alongside International artistes like Uhuru (SA) and Notshi (SA), Zeus, Coloza, and Vee among others during the 555 Monyaka tour.
They have also performed during charity shows especially one that was aimed at raising funds for a resident of Kanye Botho Madigele, who urgently needed kidney transplant. Ends
