Quartet appears for obtaining by false pretences

Four men appeared before Principal Magistrate Janet Phosa of Kanye for a single count of obtaining by false pretences contrary to section 308 of the Penal Code (Cap 08:01) under the Laws of Botswana.
The quartet, Richard Mosekiwa, Boitshepo Motlogi, Joel Keisang, Boenyana Ndebele and two others who were not before court, on or about July 5, 2012 at or near Taukobong ward in Kanye in the Southern Administrative District, acting jointly with a common purpose, with intent to defraud, obtained an amount of P77 000 from David Stephenson and P14 000 from Jeffrey Blair Hammond.
The four accused falsely offered to exchange the money for 11 Kruger Gold Coins each worth P7 000 with Mr David Stephenson and two other coins with Mr Jeffrey Blair Hammond at a total value of P 91 000.
In another case, a 28-yearold man of Mmamokhasi ward in Kanye, Mr Olebile Keagile stood before court also accused of obtaining by false pretences.
According to court papers, the accused person had obtained a truck tyre worth P 7 000 from Kesegofaditswe Mpape on January 2, 2014 at Ramonnedi lands near Kanye with an intention to defraud him.
All the accused are likely to get an imprisonment term not exciding seven years should they be convicted. They would appear again on April 29 2014.
The state was represented by Inspector Goitsemang Sekgabo and Sub Inspector Pogiso Toteng of Sejelo police respectively. ENDS
