Rachel is Miss Millennium 2014

Rachel Keddy, a service coordinator at Nashua Company was on Friday, April 4 crowned Miss Millennium 2014 during a beauty pageant held at  Millennium jazz club.

Sheila Dipate scooped first princess while Segametsi  Masego got the second princess  position.

The 49 year old Mahalapye born but married in Molepolole beauty was no doubt a cut above 10 other contestants.

Perseverance  paid for Keddy as it was her fourth time trying her luck in the pageant.

She said last year she was the second runner up, adding that being selected in the top five again this year and top three gave her hope.  She believes that indeed patience pay.

As part of the duties of the pageant  winners of contributing towards social development of communities through charity work, Keddy said she will continue to do the work that the former Miss Millennium has been doing.

Since they (former Miss Millennium) have been doing a lot in the needs, Keddy explained that she really wants to work with people with dsiability and children in need.

“These people need our support, they need shelter and I am going to provide couselling to them,” she said.

Clad in a beautiful blue stylish dress and , a beaming smile coupled with  confidence, Keddy  beat  the other two in answering a question from the judges to define beauty.

Asserting the answer in Setswana, Keddy said “bontle ke go itshwara mo go lolameng, eseng mo go makgwakgwa, bontle ke lorato, ke tirasanyo mmogo,ebile ke boteng jwa pelo ya motho.”

The queen walked away with P3 000, the first and second princesses  got P2 000 and   P1 000 respectively.

Meanwhile, Millennium jazz restaurant partner owner Shima Monageng stated that the annual pageant started seven years ago and it has been going very well.

He urged  the organisers to start registration as early as possible for the next  pageant. of spending billions of pula on the needy. Monageng noted that Millennium jazz restaurant is not only for entertainment but also provides a helping hand to the needy.

For the first time addressing such event, the guest speaker of the night, Kweneng district council secretary, Wazha Tema expressed his appreciation to the Millennium jazz restaurant owners for helping the government in reducing the burden. ENDS
