03 Apr 2014

Police are investigating two armed robbery incidents in which a person was shot and wounded on March 29 at Gabane whilst others were attacked and seriously injured at Matebele on March 27.

A press release from Botswana Police Service public relations office stated that an unknown man allegedly entered a supermarket in Gabane and robbed it of an undisclosed amount of money at gun point.

The suspect allegedly shot the victim who was among a group of customers attempting to intercept the robber. The victim was hospitalised with serious injuries, said the release.

It further stated that in another incident, a man and his fiancée were attacked and seriously injured at their home by unknown men at Matebele village. The victims, all Batswana aged 43 and 52, sustained injuries after they were apparently hit with sharp objects by attackers who fled the scene before police arrived.

The release stated that a police investigation team later found a motor vehicle linked to the robbery hidden in the bush. The victims were admitted at the hospital.

The police also launched a manhunt for Botswana citizen male, Obed Kamoto aged 28 years of Broadhurst in Gaborone to assist them with further investigations relating to the Matebele armed robbery. ENDS
