Police investigate murder suicide

Sehithwa police are investigating an incident in which a 27-year-old man of Somelo murdered his girlfriend and later hanged himself at Bothatogo.

The station commander, Superintendent Zakes Masike confirmed the incident, which took place over the weekend. He said the man was on bail as last year he murdered a certain man that he suspected of having an affair with his girlfriend.

He said the girlfriend was staying with her aunt as she was afraid of her boyfriend and that night, she decided to go and sleep at her house since she was drunk. The boyfriend followed her from the drinking hole up to her house and entered through the back window.

Superintendent Masike noted that boyfriend found her sleeping and used a scarf to kill her and later hanged himself with a wire on the rafters.

He said the corpses were found by the kids who went to check on their mother and alerted the neighbours who notified the police. The corpses are at Letsholathebe Memorial hospital awaiting post mortem.

In Maun, 10 people are recuperating at Letsholathebe Memorial hospital after they sustained serious injuries in a road accident involving three vehicles.

According to Superintendent Kenanao Badumetse, the incident took place on Saturday midnight at Sedie Customary Court turn off along the Sir Seretse Khama road.

He said a Toyota Hilux was driving behind a Dyna Toyota from new mall to Sedie and the Dyna indicated to make a turn to the right, the car behind (Toyota Hilux) overtook and hit it on the side. The overtaking car which had three passengers rolled several times and blocked the road.

Superintendent Badumetse said some some pedestrians rushed to the scene, but a Corolla car came from the other direction and hit six of them, leaving them with serious injuries.

The six people together with the driver and the three passengers from the Toyota Hilux were rushed to the hospital while the driver of the Dyna disappeared.

He said the driver of the corolla, who is a police officer, was tested and charged with driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. He said investigations were on going. ENDS
