Labour ministry hands over department of internship

Department of National Internship Programme in the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs has been officially transferred to the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture.
Fifty-four members of staff would now operate under the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture. Speaking at the handover ceremony, Minister of Labour and Home Affairs, Mr Edwin Batshu said the transfer marked a quantum leap in the government’s efforts to streamline its processes for improved service delivery.
Mr Batshu said this was so because the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture was strategically placed to effectively pursue youth development related issues.
The minister was convinced that the Department of National Internship Programme will continue with its excellence at their new environment as it has always been leading at the ministry in terms of performance.
Since inception of the programme, he said, about 8 758 unemployed tertiary education graduates have been offered Internship in all sectors of the economy, through the National Internship Programme.
The latest statistics indicated that 4 133 Interns were enrolled in the programme, of which 2 238 were in the public sector, 1051 in the private sector, 656 in parastatal organizations while 188 are in NGOs, he said.
For his part, the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture (MYSC), Mr Shaw Kgathi welcomed the Department of National Internship Programme, noting that his ministry was going to work hard to grow the already excelling programme.
He said the transfer comes with challenges but his Ministry is well equipped and ready for them. ENDS
