BOT50 and Vision 2016 secretariat have engaged in a media campaign to hype Botswana’s 50 years anniversary and Vision 2016.
The build up to Botswana 50 will be created through various programmes on radio stations and newspapers under the theme Botswana First or Botswana Pele in local vernacular.
On Friday, March 29, local station managers and editors vowed to collaborate to reduce costs, which would also bring emphasis to the theme at the same time.
Charity Kgotlafela from Vision 2016 secretariat said it was imperative for Batswana, especially the media, to partake in the events leading to Botswana turning 50 as well realisation of the national Vision 2016. Individuals and organisations, she said ought to put Botswana at the apex of the whole world.
Gabz Fm station manager, Kenneth Moeng representing all the local private radio stations proposed an all Radio station music festival to spread the theme through music and arts on September 25 prior to the Botswana 50 years celebrations.
Keitirele Mathape who was representing the Department of Broadcasting Services said that RB2 may join other radio stations while RB1 would be its own as it has a different audience and mandate.
Proposed activities included newspaper, radio and TV features about Botswana history, culture and high profile people across the media houses as well as using social media like Facebook to create the hype.
