Clap your Hands gives back to community
31 Mar 2014
As the years are drawing closer to year 2016, young Batswana from various sectors continue to play a major role in actualising the pillars of the vision.
As Vision Council stresses that the vision was a national project, some youths have shown ownership and understanding of the vision mandate. Recently, an entertainment company of six youthful lads who go by the name Flamboyant Entertainments extended a helping hand to House of Hope Trust in Palapye.
Flamboyant Entertainments are the mastermind behind the annual Clap your Hands music festival usually staged in December. Three years back when the people of Palapye welcomed them warmly, these young men vowed to give back something to the community.
It was then that they identified House of Hope Trust, which provided pre school education to orphans and vulnerable children in the area, with the help of the Social and Community Development department in Palapye.
According to Tshimologo Bonang, public relations officer of Flamboyant Entertainment, they had been giving groceries to the trust from their proceeds since 2011 when they started the Clap Your Hands gig.
Bonang said in an interview that the Trust has 90 children who are all under the Trust’s care until they are ready to graduate to primary schools. But, he says the number could increase as it is important for children to be enrolled in pre school before their primary school.
And, Bonang says running such entity is expensive and most of the time the school depends on donations for their day to day activities in school.
Although they flamboyantly made a mark and did not waste time in giving back to charity, Bonang says they in future plan to do more for the Palapye community as their event is also growing each year with the support of the community.
He says there are other endeavors to look into like Adopt a Child in the same organization they are working with; as well as also taking up another charity organization in Palapye.
Bonang advises fellow promoters to take responsibility and give back to the nation.
He says for a long time the showbiz industry has been associated with negativity and social ills, therefore he urges other promoters alike to show that the industry has a lot to offer in terms of diversifying the economy as well as developing the lives of other Batswana who are less fortunate as we approach Vision 2016.
