No employees owed overtime

19 Mar 2014

The Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Dikgakgamatso Seretse has told Parliament that there are no employees at Sojwe, Letlhakeng and Takatokwane police stations who are owed overtime allowance.

Responding to a parliamentary question from the MP for Letlhakeng West, Mr Ngaka Ngaka, the minister said there were no employees who had been on standby and were owed standby allowance as such allowance did not exist.

He said occasionally, overtime allowance was paid to auxiliary staff including kitchen hands and cooks for time worked beyond normal working hours. Mr Seretse stated that this was sometimes substituted with day offs as a way of managing overtime expenditure.

MP Ngaka had asked the minister if he was aware that kitchen hands and cooks at Sojwe, Letlhakeng and Takatokwane police stations were not paid overtime and standby allowances.

He further asked him how he would assist them and when would these employees be paid for previous years, and what caused the situation and how would it be avoided in future. Ends
