Self introspection vital - Tlhomelang
16 Mar 2014
Kgalagadi District Council (KgDC) employees have been urged to put people first in their daily operations.
Speaking during the KgDC open day held under the theme: Kgalagadi district, our commitment, our pledge, our pleasure towards attaining vision 2016 Mr Leach Tlhomelang urged the council employees to use the day as an opportunity to introspect in an endeavor to render effective and quality services to the people.
Mr Tlhomelang who is Southern District council chairperson said by interacting with customers, the employees would be re-energised as the custodians of the people with a common goal of quality service.
Amongst other things Mr Tlhomelang appealed to the KgDC employees to desist from corrupt practices, exercise neutrality and fairness in their duties as well as treating customers in an equal manner.
This, he observed, was critical to the growth of the district council and enroute to attainment of Vision 2016.
“One must caution that whichever decision the council makes should remain fair, neutral, impartial and free from any political influence,” Mr Tlhomelang said.
Kgalagadi district council’s key commitments entails delivery and the provision of quality infrastructure, the provision of good education, the provision of environmental health services such as orphaned care, destitude and provision of services to the remote area dwellers.
Mr Tlhomelang went on to say that despite the milestones, he was also aware of the challenges the district still faced such as vastness of the district, the difficult terrains and shortage of resources.
“The purchasing and ferrying of construction materials is from as far as Gaborone and Lobatse, which is more than 500 kilometres away from both Tsabong and Hukuntsi,” said Tlhomelang.
For his part, Kgalagadi District Council secretary Mr Joshua Maluleke said the district has pledged to serve its clientele with transparency and dedication despite the challenges including shortage of staff and lack of essential services.
“We will endeavor to do what is in the best interest of the community,” he said and added that their theme fits well to their intentions. ENDS
