Donation boosts primary schools in Gaborone

07 May 2026

In a bid to improve classroom comfort and learning conditions, Angels of God Church Choir of St Apostolic Faith Mission of Botswana has donated four air conditioners and 11 fans worth over P50 000 to Ikageng and Ledumang Primary Schools.

The generous donations follow the choir’s inaugural Psalm 51:12 Clap and Tap, held on November 1 last year, from which the contributions were raised.

Ledumang Primary received four air conditioners, while Ikageng received 11 fans.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Assistant Minister in the Ministry of Communications and Innovation, Mr Shawn Nthaile, noted poorly maintained classroom infrastructure as a barrier to potential and to a right.

He cited the Children’s Act, the primary law aimed at protecting children in Botswana, highlighting that it established a clear bill of a child’s right to development, education and to dignity.

The assistant minister added that the act also placed responsibility not only on parents, but also on the community and government to support children in realising these rights.

“When a learner sits on a broken chair, their right to dignity is compromised. When a girl misses school because there are no proper sanitation facilities, their right to education is denied.

That is why today is not charity, but a community stepping up to fulfill what the law demands,” said Mr Nthaile.

He lauded the choir for the generous donation and affirmed that true transformation happens through the collective efforts of the government, in partnership with communities such as the churches, schools and traditional leaders including Dikgosi as well as the private sector, all pulling in the same direction.

Mr Nthaile also affirmed the government’s commitment to prioritising student welfare and adhering to the Children’s Act as well to ensuring accelerated infrastructure development.

For his part, St Apostolic Faith Mission of Botswana Bishop Gilbert Serema said the donation goes beyond the church giving back, describing it as a meaningful investment in the community’s children.

He expressed hope that the contribution would significantly ease both learning for students and teaching for educators.ends
