Chinese adopts Dinokwane school

The Chinese Ambassador to Botswana, Mr Zheng Zhuqiang says the youth plays an important role in the development of a country.

Speaking during the official adoption of the Dinokwane Primary School by the Chinese Embassy and the celebration of the school’s 2013 PSLE examination results, Mr Zheng said education is crucial in promoting youth empowerment.

“Education is the key to success for not only individuals, but also the future of a country, hence the youth are the future,” he said.

He explained that Botswana was making an on-going effort in achieving the Vision 2016 pillar of an educated and informed nation, adding that Chinese government has over the years played an active and helpful role to make sure that the pillar was met.

He noted that Dinokwane was one of the schools that Chinese government has helped build and donated to local communities on a gratis basis, together with Kubung Primary School in Maun.

Mr Zheng said ever since Dinokwane opened in October 2012, it has not only provided a conducive environment and facilities for learning, but also served the local community with academic devotion and excellence.

He said the school managed to attain 86 per cent in the 2013 PSLE results, which was above regional target.

He said with continuous efforts from the teachers and pupils and all stakeholders, Dinokwane would achieve much more and serve the community better in future.

Mr Zheng said as per appeal of ‘Adopting Schools’ by government, they promise to work closely with the school to make contributions within their capacity.

The Chinese embassy also donated computers, photocopying machine, sports gear, books and a cheque amounting to P 50 000 for the school to purchase other equipment it may need need.

For her part, the school head, Ms Gabotwesepe Ramaja said the Chinese embassy assistance came at the right time as they managed to alleviate overcrowding at Newtown Primary School.

Ms Ramaja said the partnership would also assist the school grow, especially that there was need for more classrooms.

She applauded the Chinese embassy for the gesture and hoped that they have a very fruitful future.

She said they cherished the friendship and hope that it brought them positive results. ENDS
