Ghanzi council to engage investors
13 Mar 2014
The Ghanzi District Council is planning to engage potential investors in the district to seek avenues of generating additional revenue to supplement the council’s budget.
The council chairperson, Mr Director Tlharese said this during a full council session recently. He said there was need to generate additional revenue as the council continued to suffer from severe budget cuts every financial year.
“We are unable to carry out our projects because of these budget cuts. The recurrent budget can never be adequate and we must now generate income for ourselves with the help of investors from our district,” he said.
Mr Tlharese revealed that at the moment, only five per cent of the Ghanzi District Council totalled collection of income contributes to the total budget. He said the 2014/2015 budget had to be cut by 16 percent.
He said the council had asked for P197.2 million, which was cut down to P165 million. “The approved budget was augmented by our own collections which totaled P7.5miliion. This brought our total budget to P172.8 million,” he said.
He further explained that half of the approved budget will go towards salaries, wages, allowances, votes for termination allowances and other related votes from personnel remunerations. Ends
