Donations restore dignity - Ramsay
13 Mar 2014
The deputy permanent secretary in the Office of the President, Dr Jeff Ramsay says donations given to the President for distribution to the less privileged people are meant to restore dignity to beneficiaries.
Receiving 1 000 blankets from Sefalana Cash and Carry on behalf of President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama on March 12, Dr Ramsay said the donation was in line with one of the pillars of the President’s roadmap which was dignity. He said the blankets would restore the self-esteem of the less privileged.
Dr Ramsay commended Sefalana Cash and Carry and other companies that had already donated to the President’s appeal for restoring the dignity of fellow citizens.
He said Sefalana had a corporate social responsibility policy and had made similar donations in the past to a number of organisations that were taking care of the less privileged such as Journey of Hope.
Dr Ramsay said the donation of the blankets was an added advantage to the President Housing Appeal package which had benefited a lot of disadvantaged members of community.
He said the gestures showed that Batswana were now achieving one of the pillars of Vision 2016 of a compassionate, just and caring nation.
For his part, Sefalana Cash and Carry managing director, Mr Hans Kampmann said his business was privileged to be part of the Botswana community and responding positively to the President’s appeal to assist the disadvantaged.
Acting permanent secretary in the Office of the President, Mr Arnold Madikwe said the President’s Housing Appeal was progressing well looking at the number of individuals and companies that continue to respond to the housing initiative.
He said this was a commendable step because the donations bring the beneficiaries to the level where they could feel dignified. Ends
