No progression line for adult educators

12 Mar 2014

Part time adult educators do not have an established line of progression because they are engaged on part-time basis, Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development, Mr Patrick Masimolole has said.

Mr Masimolole said the line of progression could not be developed because their job could not be differentiated in terms of job complexities and skills required. He told Parliament that part time adult educators were engaged on part- time basis for a session of two hours per day and these educators were remunerated at the rate of P160 per session.

The assistant minister said there were 946 part time adult educators based at villages countrywide with 284 of these deployed at Central, 16 at Chobe, 26 at Gantsi, 48 at Kgatleng, 67 in Kgalagadi and 91 at North East. Responding to a parliamentary question, Mr Masimolole said 46 of these educators are at South East, while 143 are at Southern Region and 130 at Kweneng.

The Member of Parliament for Kgalagadi North, Mr Phillip Khwae had asked the minister to state the number of employed part time adult educators based in villages country wide.

The minister was also asked to state the conditions of their employment and scales at which they were remunerated and their line of progress and if none, what the ministry intended to do to upgrade them. Ends
