Stock theft unit set up in Francistown

Parliament has been informed that Stock Theft Unit has been set up in Francistown and currently has a staff compliment of three officers.
Answering a question in Parliament on Tuesday, March 11, the Minister of Defence, Justice and Security, Mr Dikgakgamatso Seretse said the unit was headed by an inspector and was responsible for Francistown and surrounding areas of Marapong, Matsitama and Makobo-Jamataka.
Furthermore, He said police posts had been established in Marapong and Makobo-Jamataka and were manned by a total of 17 officers to augment efforts of stock officers in Francistown.
These officers, Minister Seretse said, had been issued with one vehicle and they could use vehicles from other stations when the need arose.
The MP for Tonota North, Mr Fidelis Molao had asked the minister whether Botswana Police Service Stock Theft Unit had been set up. He asked that if that was the case, the minister should state the number of officers allocated to this unit.
Mr Molao also wanted to know that if they had not been set up, when would they be set up with requisite resources to fight the over increasing stock theft cases in the Tonota North constituency especially around the Marapong, Matsitama and Makobo-Jamataka areas.Ends
