Dr Kedikilwe said the introduction of information communication technologies (ICTs) has transformed public libraries into modern facilities that offer not only book based information, but also multimedia formats and the Internet.

He said the acquisition of knowledge and information was the pivot through which development could be attained in any society. Vice President Kedikilwe said 47 public libraries have provided free Internet services since 2008 while 24 have provided computer access.

He added that the Sesigo project has ensured that information was availed to Batswana irrespective of their geographic location and level of urbanisation. Dr Kedikilwe noted that the Gweta Community Library was among libraries with computers and Internet connectivity for public access. “You can now access the same information that is available to people in Europe, America and the rest of the world from your village,” he noted

He said ICTs would transform different aspects of the socio-economic life of the people of Gweta including both teachers and students. Ends
